Sam Seder is back on the air in Madison, WI for the first time (at least under his own name) since the end of the Majority Report. Opening with the chords of the Clash’s version of Toot’s “Pressure Drop” Seder On Sundays brings the progressive voice closest to the blog community live to our community. Also the best bumper music in progtalk. So I’m glad we get Seder live again.
We never heard the morning show (except for early morning repeats) because the time is owned by Stephanie Miller.
Miller and Schultz at this point appear to be unstoppable juggernauts of progressive radio. By not taking them on directly AAR can concentrate on providing 24/7 wraparound that makes it easy to program a progressive talk station. The strategy from AAR seems to be to fill those times with independent contractors. Both Thom Hartmann and Lionel came with their own stations and probably their own syndication operations (Thom certainly does). Hartmann also has his own sponsors (with him since the Vermont farm days…) [... haven't heard Lionel so not qualified to comment. Thom is The Best Talkshow Host In The World.]
I went to a celebration of the return of the Madison Progressive Talk: The Mic 92.1 last night. Though the big feature of the night was an appearance by Stephanie Miller, there seemed to be a re-commitment to Air America 2.0, as well as to the progressive voice of the community and their community of advertisers.
The big announcements from The Mic: the returns of Lee Rayburn in the morning and Mike Malloy at night. This represents a solid move to the left.
